OUR RUG CLEANING PROCESS
We believe it is important for you to know what to expect when it comes to cleaning your rug. If you have any questions, you can call our office today.
Step 1: We will assess your rug. This is the most important step in the entire process. While you may have called us because your rug has a stain or you spilled something on it, there may be hidden issues that need to be addressed. It is important that our team know the age of your rug, especially if it is an antique rug. The reason behind this is because older rugs require special care. If you do not know the age of your rug, that is okay too. Our professional rug cleaners can determine the age of the rug based on a complete inspection of it. During the assessment, we will make note of any areas of concerns, stains, and odors.
Step 2: We create a customized cleaning plan. If we uncover any areas of concern that need special addressing, we will let you know at the conclusion of the assessment. Sometimes, it is enough to simply clean the rug as this removes all dirt and bacteria. In cases where additional cleaning, repairs, or restorations may be needed, we will discuss that with you. Our expert rug cleaners will create a customized cleaning plan that addresses all areas of concern and you can rest assured knowing that our experts are properly trained and experienced in making all rug repairs and restorations.
Step 3: We will clean your rug. The rug cleaning process can vary depending on the type of rug that you have. There are no two rugs that are the same and because of this, we want you to know that our rug experts will evaluate the rug and determine the best method of cleaning prior to the cleaning being conducted. Before any type of water is applied to your rug, we will remove any dust and dirt that may be lodged in the rug’s fibers using bursts of high-powered air. This is a safe process that forces any lodged particles to become free from the rug’s fibers without causing any damage or disruption to the rug itself. Once the excess dirt is removed, your rug will then go through our specialized hand-washing process. We hand-wash all rugs and we never place them through a machine. As a rule, we wash the rug first and then we take the time to focus in on those tough spots that remain or the areas that need extra attention such as spots and stains. During the hand-washing stage, we use only approved solutions and products that have been previously tested. Our team will NEVER use harsh chemicals or products on your rugs.
Step 4: We will dry your rug. Drying the rug may sound like an easy enough process, but it is one that is often overlooked by inexperienced rug cleaners. Some rugs respond well to being left out to dry while other rugs cannot hold onto moisture and need to be dried within minutes. Our rug cleaning professionals will identify the best method for drying your rug and utilize that method to ensure your rug is properly dried and free from moisture.
Step 5: We will perform any necessary retouching. Once your rug has been cleaned and dried, our rug experts will perform any repair and restoration work. Some of the most common retouching applications we perform include seam repairs, hemstitching, and adding new colors to the fabric. This is the last step in the cleaning process and is always done at the end so that we have a good idea of what repairs are needed once the rug has been cleaned.
While it is not common to occur, sometimes rugs will show additional set in stains or spots once it has been cleaned. If this does occur, we will repeat the above steps to hand-wash and clean the rug. Our rug specialists will pay careful attention to your rug to minimize stress on the fabric as the process is repeated.
